The mission of the Community Resource Center (CRC) is to advocate for and assist those in need by providing programs and services in collaboration with local service organizations.
The CRC is a collaborative effort between Our Lady of Guadalupe parish, Casa de Misericordia community, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and local Non-profits servicing Barrio Logan and Sherman Heights. It is supported by OLG A Faith That Does
Justice and Guadalupe Organizing Project ministries. All of us have come together to help our parishioners and those who have negatively affected by COVID in Barrio Logan and Sherman Heights and are in need of assistance. The center is open from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Thursdays and Fridays in the parish hall.
This program teaches individuals how to grow their own food sources. It is led by master gardener, Ms. Angelie Ryah, and will meet at Salon Tepeyac (schedule coming soon).
This program helps Spanish-speakers improve their English-speaking skills. It is a free program led by Sister Mary Avila and Mr. Sean Farry that includes class materials. Class schedule and location are forthcoming.
This program uses faith-based materials from the Trauma Healing Institute to help participants enter into emotional and spiritual healing from wounds that may have been caused by living in an abusive situation, grieving the suffering or death of a loved one, recovering from a trauma from the migration experience or other difficult situations. The program is held in a small group setting with personal privacy honored and is led by Sister Mary Waskowiak and Angelie Ryah.
The CRC is supported in partnership by the County of San Diego’s Health and
Human Services Agency (HHSA). HHSA provides a social worker who meets with
families face-to-face to discuss their situations and assist them with available help
from government programs and/or our community partners. To ensure that each
family is given ample time with the social worker we ask that you make an
appointment prior to coming to the CRC but walk-ins are welcomed.
Note: The services listed above are provided by State and Federal government and Non-profit
